Local ShopRite Stores Offer a Way to Donate Food During Pandemic
Pre-made bags of food can be purchased in-store and donated to local food banks in need
Florida, NY (May 1, 2020) – ShopRite of Kingston and ShopRite of Vails Gate have found a new way to do their part to help the community during this uncertain time. The supermarkets are offering pre-made bags filled with better-for-you items customers can donate to a local food bank to help those struggling with food insecurity.
The bags are pre-packed by ShopRite’s in-store dietitians and can be found outside the RD’s office for customers to pick up and pay for with the rest of their groceries at the register. The bags can then be dropped off at a bin by the entrance to be donated. Bags from ShopRite of Kingston are donated to The People’s Place, and donations from ShopRite of Vails Gate go to the Northeast Gateway to Freedom food bank. No outside food is being collected at this time for food safety reasons.
“In these uncertain times, we remain committed to supporting the communities we serve and that includes the issue of food insecurity,” said Tom Urtz, vice president of operations, ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. “ShopRite believes in lending a hand to our neighbors in need, and we’re thankful to our associates and customers who embrace our commitment to community giving.”
The ShopRite of Kingston and ShopRite of Vails Gate are currently open 7am – 10pm seven days a week with senior hours offered from 6am – 7am each day. For the most up-to-date information, please check the individual store’s Facebook page.
