Wakefern Food Corp. Celebrates Supermarket Employee Day

Wakefern once again joins supermarkets across the country in celebrating Supermarket Employee Day and all the dedicated associates who work in our stores to make sure people get the fresh food they need for their families.

FMI, the Virginia-based Food Industry Association, last year declared February 22 the first Supermarket Employee Day to honor the hardworking associates who give their all to help customers and communities and whose commitment to the industry has been critical over the last few years.

Wakefern’s family-owned member companies will once again highlight and honor their associates in unique ways on Supermarket Employee Day, with some stores offering catered lunches, special surprises, photo booths, gift cards and decorated breakrooms.

Associates in our stores have been the backbone of the grocery industry, but the pandemic propelled them into the spotlight – showcasing their dedication to customers during challenging times.

“Supermarket Employee Day is a great way to recognize associates who are in our stores each day helping and supporting our customers,” said Joe Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp., the retailer-owned cooperative that operates 360 supermarkets under the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage and Fairway banners. “For more than 75 years our family-owned supermarkets have been serving local communities — and the key to our success is our family of associates. Today and every day we thank our associates for their dedication.”
