Wakefern Named 2012 Internship Employer of the Year

Keasbey, NJ — April 5, 2012 — Wakefern Food Corp. announced today that it has been named the 2012 Internship Employer of the Year by Seton Hall University.

Each year, Seton Hall University’s Career Center, in collaboration with the academic colleges, recognizes an outstanding employer who has provided its students with meaningful and often life changing internship, leadership and mentoring opportunities.

Wakefern has been selected as this year’s “Internship Employer of the Year” for its contributions to Seton Hall students through its corporate internship program. Each summer, Wakefern offers more than seventy paid internship positions within its procurement, logistics and service divisions, to provide students with a hands-on and resume-building work experience. Wakefern also frequently hires former interns upon graduation or accepts them into the company’s prestigious Leaders in Training program.

Wakefern will be presented with this prestigious award at the “2012 Experiential Education Awards Luncheon” on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Seton Hall’s University Center.

“We are so honored to be recognized for our work with Seton Hall’s students, who never fail to bring fresh ideas and energetic professionalism to our offices,” said Joe Sheridan, president & COO for Wakefern Food Corp. “Not only does this program allow us to mentor and shape the future generations of the food industry but, since implementing the program in 2005, we have successfully transitioned nearly fifty of our interns into full-time Wakefern associates. This program provides us with a great opportunity to bring talented, dynamic and creative individuals into the Wakefern family.”

Students who enter into Wakefern’s internship program not only learn about the wealth of opportunities for successful careers in the food industry but they also create a valuable network of contacts amongst each other and Wakefern’s executive staff. Wakefern’s interns are also afforded the opportunity to experience and participate in the company’s commitment to the community by working with and volunteering at local food banks and Special Olympics New Jersey.
