EXECUTIVE WOMEN OF NEW JERSEY TO HONOR WAKEFERN VICE PRESIDENT

Keasbey, NJ (May 13, 2010) – Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) will honor Ann Marie Burke, vice president of Human Resources at Wakefern Food Corp., at its Salute to the Policy Makers 2010 Awards Dinner on May 13, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick in New Brunswick, NJ. Currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, EWNJ holds the biennial fund-raising event to recognize women of professional distinction in New Jersey.

Throughout her career as both an attorney and as vice president of Human Resources for Wakefern, Ann has been dedicated to networking with and mentoring young people. She often speaks to high school and college students about career opportunities for women in the supermarket industry and at Wakefern, in particular, as a part of the company’s Leaders-in- Training (LIT) program. Ms. Burke has been instrumental in the growth of this twelve month multi-track Management Training Program, which provides Wakefern with a stream of talented individuals who have the potential to be outstanding future leaders within the organization.

“To be honored by the EWNJ in this way really speaks to Wakefern’s many programs and initiatives that reward, recognize and encourage the development of our current associates and the recruitment of future talent,” said Ms. Burke. “Many times at recruitment events, great candidates who may have marketing and business degrees, walk past the Wakefern table because they don’t see the supermarket industry as a place for them. Our team reaches out to let them know about Wakefern and the tremendous opportunities they can find here.”

“As part of its commitment to promoting women at the most senior levels of corporate America, non-profits and public service in New Jersey, EWNJ will pay tribute to 37 accomplished and admirable women for their professional achievements and contributions to their organizations. Since 1980, the Salute to the Policy Makers has become a prestigious list of the Garden State’s most accomplished women,” noted EWNJ President-Elect and 2010 Salute Dinner Chair Donna M. Meade, who also serves as executive director of the JFK Medical Center Foundation.

Proceeds from the biennial event will fund EWNJ’s scholarship program, which has provided over $1 million in scholarships to more than 300 deserving New Jersey women enrolled in advanced degree programs at New Jersey institutions since implementing the program in 1986, as well as other programs that advance women. New Jersey Resources (NJR) Chairman of the Board and CEO Laurence M. Downes serves as the event’s honorary dinner chair. Elaine Chao, former United States Secretary of Labor, will serve as guest speaker for the event.
