Wakefern Joins On-The-Job-Training Initiative as Employer Committed to Employee Union County Residents

In March and early April Wakefern hosted job recruitment fairs at two of its warehouse locations including Keasbey, NJ and Elizabeth, NJ. Both locations attracted more than 40 Union County applicants hoping to land on-the-job-training (OJT) opportunities in the warehouses. The unemployed applicants were seeking jobs in warehousing through an OJT initiative administered by the Elizabeth Development Company in partnership with the Union County Workforce Investment Board and City of Elizabeth.

Wakefern Food Corp. announced today that it will celebrate the opening of its newest warehouse facility in Elizabeth, NJ with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 12:30 PM. Scheduled to attend are Wakefern Chairman and CEO Joseph Colalillo, Wakefern President and COO Joe Sheridan, New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Senator Ray Lesniak, Elberon Development Co’s Chairman and CEO Anne Evans Estabrook and President Dave Gibbons.

Wakefern Food Corp. Receives EPA Food Recovery Challenge Award

Wakefern Food Corp., the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the U.S., announced today that it has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its numerous efforts in food recovery and waste reduction. The 2012 Food Recovery Challenge Award for Endorsers is awarded to companies that create a foundation of innovation and achievement that can serve as a model for other organizations as they pursue sustainable business practices.

Wakefern Launches Sustainable Seafood Program

Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative whose members own and operate ShopRite and Fresh Grocer branded supermarkets, announced today that in its ongoing effort to achieve seafood sustainability, it has partnered with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and will increasingly source wild-caught and farm-raised seafood for processing in its facility that meets one of these certification standards.
