ShopRite of Governor’s Square Celebrates Pet Month with Donations Supporting Animal Welfare and Pet Adoption

ShopRite Presents Donation Checks to Brandywine Valley SPCA and Purina Purple Leash Project During Community Adoption Event at the Store in Bear, Delaware

Bear, DE (May 27, 2026) – ShopRite of Governor’s Square, owned and operated by Kenny Family ShopRites, hosted a special National Pet Month celebration on Tuesday, May 26, featuring a pet adoption event and donations to community partners dedicated to animal welfare.

During the event, ShopRite made product donations and presented checks totaling $15,000 to the Brandywine Valley SPCA and the Purina Purple Leash Project to support pet adoption efforts, animal welfare initiatives, and resources for domestic violence survivors with pets. The celebration also included a live pet adoption event outside the store, where customers and community members had the opportunity to meet animals in search of their forever homes.

Melissa Kenny, Chief Operating Officer of Kenny Family ShopRites and a board member of the Brandywine Valley SPCA, joined ShopRite associates and representatives from the Brandywine Valley SPCA and Purina to highlight the importance of supporting organizations that care for vulnerable animals and connect pets with loving families.

“Supporting organizations that protect animals and help pets find safe, loving homes is important to our family,” said Kenny. “National Pet Month is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together, celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives, and support the incredible organizations working every day to care for animals in need.”

Representatives from the Brandywine Valley SPCA and the Purina Purple Leash Project also spoke about the impact of community partnerships and the growing need for support for animal rescue, adoption, and pet-friendly domestic violence shelter initiatives.

This cause is especially meaningful to the Kenny family, whose Kenny Family Foundation supports the Brandywine Valley SPCA and its mission to protect and care for animals throughout the region. Through community partnerships, charitable giving, and local events, Kenny Family ShopRites continues to support organizations that strengthen the communities they serve.
