Gourmet Garage Opens Neighborhood Market in West Village
West Village, NY (May 2, 2022) – Gourmet Garage opened its newest neighborhood food market in the West Village, which offers all the essentials “to make every day a Gourmet day” with a large selection of fine foods to go. The city’s newest Gourmet Garage elevates everyday meals with fresh takes on flavors and recipes including convenient and low-priced chef prepared grab- and go- options such as sushi, gourmet sandwiches, make-your-own bowl bar, soup and coffee bars.
Visitors to the new market, located at 585 Hudson Street, will discover a varied selection across two grocery floors – a new bi-level store model for Gourmet Garage. Fresh prepared and affordably priced fine foods can be found on the first floor Market Level along with an abundance of organic produce, cut fruit, salads, charcuterie, hot food and bakery options. Over 40 varieties of sushi are rolled fresh daily by in-house sushi chefs and gourmet sandwiches like the ‘house roasted porchetta,’ ‘perfectly prosciutto,’ ‘signature flank’ and ‘chicken pesto’ are also on the menu. Artisan cheeses and a Mediterranean olive bar accompany a soup bar featuring 10 different savory hand crafted recipes, from lobster bisque to vegetarian chili. Over 30 varieties of freshly prepared meats and to-go seafood in oven-ready tins, baked breads, and delicious desserts round out the convenience of a specialty, grab-and-go market experience.
And don’t forget the coffee! A gourmet self-serve Fairway Market Coffee Bar gives shoppers easy access to Fairway’s iconic bulk blends and 20 self-serve beverages from hot Americanos, cappuccinos, espresso, hot chocolate, cold brew, nitro iced coffee, seasonal iced tea and kombucha.
The ‘Chef’s Basement’ lower floor is packed with a wide assortment of pantry staples and groceries including leading national brands; premium meats; frozen foods and dairy; specialty beers, and health and beauty items. The entire curated store selection ensures shoppers have whatever they need for any occasion – breakfast at home, a rooftop dinner, picnic in the park or an evening snack with friends.
Family-owned and operated by Village Super Market, Inc., a member of the retailer-owned cooperative Wakefern Food Corp., the newest store creates 50 jobs and expands the Gourmet Garage footprint in Manhattan. In planning for the store, staff reached out to the community for input on what local residents wanted in a neighborhood market. Residents told planners that fresh foods and accessible price points were important. The new store reflects those needs with an affordably fabulous selection of in-house chef prepared meals, breads and pastries. Gourmet coffee can be had for $2 a cup, a fresh prepared sandwich for less than $10 and organic bananas for less than $0.79/lb.
In celebration of the grand opening in the West Village, Gourmet Garage made donations to four local organizations that were recommended by West Village residents: City Harvest, The Center (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center), Friends of Bleecker Street Playground and the New York Public Library. Gourmet Garage is also proud to help those facing food insecurity in New York City through a partnership with City Harvest to donate fresh food from the new West Village store to the food rescue organization.
The Sumas family, which includes three generations of grocers, cut the ribbon on the Hudson Street store on Friday, April 29. The family currently operates three other Gourmet Garage locations.
“We look forward to being the trusted go-to grocer for the West Village community and to bringing top quality, affordable produce, meat, seafood, gourmet cheeses and artisan baked goods at the best prices to our new neighbors,” said Perry Blatt, a third-generation grocer with Gourmet Garage. “We want shoppers to feel like this is their neighborhood market, if there is something you want that we don’t have, please tell us.”
Customers can shop in store or online with options for home delivery within two hours. In addition to being priced right on everyday items that West Villagers buy the most, the store offers digital coupons that can be clipped and downloaded from the GourmetGarage App.
