Wakefern Food Corp. Celebrates Supermarket Employee Day
Wakefern Food Corp. joined supermarkets across the country in marking the first-ever Supermarket Employee Day Monday. FMI, the Virginia-based Food Industry Association, declared February 22 Supermarket Employee Day to honor the hardworking associates who give their all to help customers and communities and whose commitment has been critical during the pandemic.
To mark the day, Wakefern member companies that own and operate supermarkets under the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage, Fairway Market and Dearborn Market banners planned to to highlight and thank associates in unique and surprising ways, with some stores offering catered lunches, sweet treats and decorated breakrooms for their associates.
“For 75 years our supermarkets have been serving local communities,” said Joe Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp., the retailer-owned cooperative with a total of 363 supermarkets. “And the key to our success is our family of associates who provide the service, support and smiles our customers and neighbors count on, especially during difficult times. Today and every day we thank our associates for their dedication.”
