ShopRite of Carteret Produce Manager Honored

Carteret, NJ  -- ShopRite of Carteret Produce Manager James Corcoran is a finalist in this year’s Retail Produce Manager Awards, which recognizes the top retail produce managers in the country.

Sponsored by the California-based United Fresh Produce Association, the awards program highlights commitment to fresh produce, innovative merchandising, community service and customer satisfaction.
Corcoran, a longtime ShopRite associate, is tops in all those categories, according to ShopRite.

“Jay Corcoran is a phenomenal employee and a good team leader who takes pride in his work. When we walk the store each day, Jay’s produce department always shines,” said Jonathan D’Orsi, vice president of operations for the ShopRite of Carteret, a third-generation family business.

“Our family is very proud of James,” added ShopRite of Carteret President Leonard Sitar. “This is a great accomplishment and a testament to his hard work and dedication to our store and the community.”

Corcoran was just 16 when he took his first job at the ShopRite of Carteret corralling shopping carts in the parking lot.  The Port Reading resident later became a clerk in the produce department before being promoted to manager of the department.  He has worked at the store for 37 years.

He knows his customers and the community, often working with local food pantries to make donations of fresh food and produce.  His innovative Produce displays drive customers to the department and make it easy for them to find the great produce they want and need.
Corcoran will travel to Chicago in June for a special awards ceremony hosted by the United Fresh Produce Association.

He lives in Port Reading with his wife, Annette, and sons Ryan and Matthew.
