ShopRite Gives a Lift to Honor Flight for Veterans

ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. surprised representatives of Hudson Valley Honor Flight with a check for $150,000 during a sendoff ceremony for the flight's Spring mission last week. The special flight departed from Stewart International Airport on April 8.

A strong supporter of Hudson Valley Honor Flight since its 2012 inception, ShopRite’s recent contribution helped fund the Spring Mission #15, and will also lend financial support for future missions out of Stewart. Hudson Valley Honor Flight arranges one-day, all-expense-paid journeys for veterans that include visits to their respective war memorials.

Its April 8 mission hosted flights for 90 area veterans (including 26 veterans from Orange County; 19 Rockland County veterans; 12 Westchester County veterans; eight each from Dutchess and Ulster counties; five veterans from Pike County, Pa; four from New Jersey, and one veteran from Connecticut ). Most of the veterans on the trip served in the Korean War while others were veterans of World War II and the Vietnam War.
The special morning started at the ShopRite of Montgomery, right, with a ceremony honoring veterans and a motorcyle motorcade to the airport.

The Honor Flight takes to the air several times a year, offering the free, special trip to veterans from New York counties such as Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Westchester, Rockland, Sullivan and Putnam; Pike County, Pa.; Bergen County, NJ, and Fairfield, CT.  Flights alternate between Stewart Airport and Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY.

Priority is given to World War II veterans and terminally ill veterans from other wars, and a reception is held for the soldiers when they arrive in DC.  The Hudson Valley Honor Flight is part of the National Honor Flight Network.

ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. is proud to help sponsor the Hudson Valley Honor Flight program --our way of saying thanks to the brave veterans who served our country!
